After graduating from Indiana University in Bloomington, I have had the opportunity to serve students who are getting ready to go to college. I worked at Riley High School as a Bilingual Resource Specialist for almost two years where my main focus was to serve as an Academic Advisor for students in grades 9th through 12th, and Educational Advisor for parents.
When I left Riley High School, I joined the TRiO Educational Talent Search at the University of Notre Dame. In this program, I served 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in the South Bend and Elkhart communities conducting informational workshops. My goal was to help students with their academic and life skills development, and provide them with academic guidance. I also developed and coordinated our first ever Summer Program for 8th graders. Our focus was academic enhancement and career awareness where projects included journalism, technology and mathematics.
After six and a half years with TRiO Talent Search, I joined the TRiO Upward Bound Program at the University of Notre Dame where I continue serving high school students while helping them prepare for college. I love working with our youth because it is true they are the future of our world, and I want to do everything I possibly can to help them in their journey.
Areas of responsibility in TriO
As the Associate Director of TRiO Upward Bound, I have the responsibility to assist the Director with the administration and management of our program. I am also the coordinator of the Upward Bound academic enrichment and tutoring programs during the academic year and summer time. During the summer I also coordinate the Upward Bound Bridge Program.
Talents/Awards/Areas of Specialty/Research
I am fluent in Spanish and English and have served as a translator and interpreter in my community for a number of years. I am very interested in technology and I use my knowledge to volunteer at a community organization to teach computers, in Spanish, to adults.
I don’t have a specific hobby, but I like to try different things all the time. One thing that is very interesting to me is the culture of different countries/people because it helps me learn how other people live and what is unique about them and different from me. I also love to dance.
