TRiO Spotlight: Local 4-H Winner is a UB Scholar

Rebekah Amaya, UB Scholar received top honors at the 2016 Indiana State Fair Public Speaking competition with her speech entitled,“The Purpose of Service in 4-H”. Rebekah is an 8-year member of the Clay Township 4-H Club. As a “Top Three” winner, Rebekah along with 36 other winners received a trip to Chicago for sightseeing and a meet-and-greet with public officials. In her winning speech, Rebekah challenged all 4-H members by saying, “As part of this 4-H family, I urge you to push one another, to push me and all the young people here, compel each other to not leave the spirit of service of 4-H on the fairgrounds but to take it everywhere and by giving our time, if only four hours to those who need it we can fulfill the pledging of our hands to a larger service, a greater service beyond the simple purpose of finding happiness for ourselves."

Congratulations, Rebekah!
