While some students took advantage of the day off for President’s Day, ND TRiO Scholars converged into Bowling Green, Ohio for the 21st Annual President’s Day Open House at Bowling Green State University.
Despite biting wind and 32 degree weather, TRiO Scholars (along with thousands of prospective BGSU Falcons and parents) met with representatives from all BGSU colleges, admissions, and financial aid, to answer crucial questions regarding the application process and available resources. Students also attended several sessions throughout the day including presentations on first year programs, available majors, and residence life.
After taking a break in the Oaks Dining Center/Bowen-Thompson Student Union, current TRiO Scholars were provided with a personalized tour from Talent Search alumnae and BGSU freshmen, Paige Douglas and Larionna Green. “The experience was actually pretty cool--that we were in their shoes just a year ago and now we’re in the last semester of our first year,” said Douglas. As Green and Douglas showcased their newfound home and TRiO Scholars inquired about the institution, the opportunities, and of course the social aspects of college life, Green imparted wisdom that resonated: “College is scary, but it’s no different than any other process. Just plan and prepare, and be prepared to plan again.”
