Due to the 21st Century Scholars Program, Upward Bound students take an annual in-state college tour of their top Hoosier institutions. This year's roster included: IUPUI, the University of Indianapolis, Butler University, and IU-Bloomington. Considering most students stay in-state for college (due to funding), local tours play a pivotal role in the application process. While a college catalog, a reference from a friend, or a campus website can provide significant information, a campus tour is by far one of the strongest determinants of best fit.
While touring each campus, students spoke with admissions and financial aid representatives, dined with local college students, sat in classrooms, attended student panel discussions, and even took part in a few social activities. "I really enjoyed the experience. It was interesting to hear about the different majors and all of the available resources. I'm nervous, but I noticed all of the schools are equipped to help me with the transition to college," said Tyler DuVall. In addition to the college tours, students were also provided informational sessions with ND TRiO alumni, Student Support Services, and the IU- Bloomington Groups Scholars Program.
