Annually, NDTS provides an out-of-state excursion for a selected group of scholars during spring break. This year, Talent Search traveled to the City of Angels (Los Angeles, California) - a first in TS history. After a meal at the famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles, scholars experienced the sights and sounds of Venice Beach followed by dinner at In & Out Burger, the number ranked food chain in the U.S.
The second day consisted of a campus visit to the University of Southern California - one of Notre Dame’s biggest rivals. After the visit, scholars visited Sony Studios. As students toured the site known for shows such as Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Ray Donovan, students received an impromptu career presentation from producers of the Simpsons, one of the longest running series to date. During the session, students actually watched an episode of the show being edited by an intern (who also shared college and career advice).
On the last days, students visited three colleges: UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, and Santa Monica College. At UCLA, students were in awe of the Pauley Pavilion - one of the most revered sites in college basketball and where Michael Warren, one of South Bend’s very own graced the court. Following the tours, students visited the Wax Museum and enjoyed the many happenings of Hollywood Blvd.
