As 2017 comes to a close, Angela (Angie) Bitner of Clay High School is celebrating a decade with the South Bend School Corporation. Prior to becoming a Colonial, Bitner has served at Marshall and Navarre Intermediate Centers as a classroom teacher and a librarian. As a teacher, Angela helped students acquire knowledge while reaching and exceeding required competencies. As a librarian, even though Bitner is charged with providing access to information, she enjoys being a hybrid of both. “What I love most about my job is working with all levels of students. Every day and hour is different. In one day, I can be assisting with a job application, writing a letter of recommendation, discussing a book series, and helping a student conduct research. I love the variety of my job.”
Even though Bitner is considered an SBCSC veteran, she was unfamiliar with TRiO Programs until she arrived at Clay High School. Fortunately for ND TRiO, after learning of its mission, she has readily offered her services and support to TRiO staff members and students. From assisting with GPA conversions to PowerSchool log-ins to college research, Bitner makes TRiO work! “I love that it provides all types of support for kids who feel overwhelmed with the college selection process. So many students give up because it can be so overwhelming, but with the help of TRiO, students gain confidence and support for present and future aspirations. What an incredible gift to give our students!”
Angie, thank you for being a part of that gift!
You make ND TRiO work!
