Hosting the 2nd Annual Spelling Bee Explosion, Gentleman & Scholars, Inc. returned to South Bend to offer local intermediate and high schools students with the opportunity to compete for scholarships and academic prizes. Open to all students with college ambitions, including students in public, charter, or home school, coordinators William Douglas and Cory Brazier were excited about this year's competition. “While the main event is the Spelling Bee, we also highlight the talents of local students. We offer talent expressions such as stepping and Spoken Word to incorporate the arts. The event is an explosion of academics and talent, ” said Brazier.
After four rounds of dictionary-worthy terms, the winner of the high school competition was announced. For the second year in a row, ND TRiO Scholar, Claire Pittman took home the grand prize of $1500.00. Coming in second place was Denny Guo, also an ND TRiO Scholar.
