The Notre Dame Talent Search (TRiO) Program held its annual Summer Academy on the Notre Dame campus from July 16-27, 2018. A group of newly minted 8th and 9th graders participated in a variety of activities. Students attended math and English classes each morning to sharpen their skills and help prepare them for optimum success during the upcoming school year. In the afternoons, the students attended a wide range of activities with a fine blend of educational and fun aspects. Activities included tours of the Notre Dame campus, the Notre Dame stadium, the Studebaker Museum, the Oliver Mansion, and the WNDU Studio. Students also attended a presentation by the Notre Dame Physics Department (Dr. Micha Kilburn). Throughout the academy, students were able to participate in an African Drumming Class under the instruction of Nicole Williams (Community Love Circle); ice-skated at the Compton Arena where the Notre Dame Hockey Team plays (the Chicago Blackhawks even held a couple practices there in past seasons); and went swimming at St. Joseph Beach.
To conclude the summer experience, participants spent an afternoon at the Rum Village Aerial Park where students were able to experience the thrill of zip-lining and enjoyed a little leisure at Strikes & Spares.
