On May 1st, high schools and partner institutions around the nation celebrated thousands of students as they decided where the next chapter of their lives will begin. This day is known as College Decision Day, a Reach Higher Initiative spearheaded by First Lady, Michelle Obama, to recognize high school seniors for their postsecondary plans while simultaneously encouraging younger students to form their own educational aspirations.
As a capstone of the four-year expedition also known as high school, the University of Notre Dame TRiO Programs hosted its Inaugural College Decision Day Celebration to acknowledge over 50 Upward Bound and Talent Search senior scholars who have decided to pursue education beyond high school. The first annual ND TRiO Programs College Signing Day Celebration took place on Wednesday, May 13th at Potawatomi Park located at 500 S Greenlawn Ave. South Bend, IN 46615 from 5-7p.m. Surrounded by their peers, school administrators, and community representatives (all wearing t-shirts of their respective alma mater), students received a certificate of recognition and a spirit tee to represent their future academic institution. Catering was provided by four South Bend restaurants: Linden Grill, Girasol, World Famous BBQ, and Taqueria el Aguila. Music was provided by local DJ, Harold “Palmster” Palmer.
The celebration was such a hit, even the local media took notice! For the full story (Fox 28 News), click here.
The event was also featured in the COE Weekly Spotlight.
Congratulations to the Mighty Class of 2015!
