This year has been a year of trial, triumph, and tragedy for the ND TRiO family. As veteran members of the TRiO staff departed to pursue other endeavors and new, amazing talents were added, TRiO managed to maintain its stride. However, the celebration was short-lived. On February 26, 2015, the University of Notre Dame and the TRiO family lost University President Emeritus, Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C. affectionately known to us as, Father Ted.

For the past 50 years, we have celebrated Father Ted’s mission of addressing college access, social and cultural barriers. In 2007, to add to his enduring commitment to educational opportunity, TRiO Programs began to proudly host the annual Father Ted’s 10k, a local race where proceeds create scholarships for graduating seniors. Unfortunately, due to a number of departmental transitions, we were simply unable to host our annual Father Ted’s 10k.  However, this year, as an alternative and in homage to Father Ted’s legacy, we are asking for your support as we participate in the 2015 Notre Dame Day (ND Day) Celebration on April 26-27, 2015.

ND Day is a global celebration of the Notre Dame mission that engages, informs, and inspires people to take action and give back. From 6:42 p.m. ET on April 26th to 11:59 p.m. ET on April 27th, the University will celebrate all things Notre Dame with a live broadcast and social media campaign. How can this serve as an alternate for this year’s Father Ted’s 10k? Well, it’s simple. There is a $1,000,000 pot of money (Yes, a million!) that will be divided among organizations who receives “votes.”

Think of it this way: If you were planning to participate or donate to this year’s Father Ted’s 10k, visit http://notredameday.nd.edu/trioprogram to make a donation. Each donation (minimum $10) will earn five (5) votes to distribute the $1,000,000. Once you cast all five (5) of your votes, please advocate for TRiO Programs by engaging your social network to increase the number of votes we receive! Essentially, we have 29 hours to show our pride for ND TRiO Programs and most importantly, how, together, we strive to support and further the mission of the University of Notre Dame TRiO Programs and its investment in the future…our students.

Sincerely,

ND TRiO Programs
